Bruno Mars Album - Doo-Wops and Hooligans Deluxe Edition I'm about two weeks into getting my new MacBook Pro as my second computer, after years of regular. somewhat justifiable suspicion of this obviously biased system. There's a fair amount of confusion around dual-booting, with quite a lot of very good advice out there, and I've decided to try and compile it here into one place for future reference. You can find a lot of this information in the user guide, but it's very easy to miss something, so it's worth taking the time to read. This list will be periodically updated, and also expanded to contain more common and useful advice as and when I become aware of it. This list is sorted by chapter in the user guide, and also by usefulness for non-Mac-geeks. : Chapter 1 - Choosing Your OS You have two options when it comes to dual-booting Windows and OS X. You can first choose OS X, and then install Windows by booting into the Windows partition and choosing to dual-boot, or you can do the reverse. Facts about dual-booting that you should know before starting 1) If you take the first option, when you first boot into Windows it'll probably be in Boot Camp. You'll need to install Windows first then go back to OS X and do the Setup Assistant. 2) If you take the second option, when you first boot into OS X you'll probably see a window in which you'll be asked to choose between OS X and Boot Camp. You can do either or the other, but Boot Camp can not be installed over a Windows install. 3) You can only install Windows over the Apple Boot Camp partition. If you have an existing Windows install, the easiest option is to delete it first, then the 4) If you delete your Windows partition and choose to install Windows over it, you will lose everything. You can only "image" the Boot Camp partition and then install Windows over it. 5) From all of the above, if you install Windows first and then go back to OS X, you will lose everything in the Boot Camp partition, which is what you have to boot into if you want to change over to Windows when you have Windows installed. 6) If you choose to install Windows over a pre-existing Windows installation, you will be able to boot into both OS X and Windows simultaneously. 7) You can use either
